Pond Study: Microscopic Samples

We have a couple of microscopes, but the jewelers loupes and magnifying glasses proved just as effective for this exercise.

On Day One, we looked at the large view of the pond through sit spot sketching. On Day Two, we looked for the smallest details. Everyone set out to find samples from the pond that we could magnify. Two observational activities with two very different outcomes.

Algae was the most abundant and most popular specimen. Up close, the kids could view green tubes that make up the mat of green slime.
