Parenting Picks: Stop the Glorification of Busy

Oh No!

We live in a big city.
Not because we love big cities, but our life brings us here for the next couple of years.
We moved here with a purpose and are firm about staying until we reach our goal.
However, we cringe at the thought of city life.

It's crowded.
A lot of 'Keeping Up with the Joneses', going on.
Definitely smoggy.
And busy, bustling all day long.

We choose not to be running 24/7; devoting some energy to activities of the heart, but making "free time" every day, the actual priority, instead of the other way around.
It may be seen as lazy in this booming city with opportunities galore, but it is intentional.
We choose to give ourselves and our daughter some freedom to take life at a slower pace.
It took a long time to give myself permission to STOP RUNNING.
To banish the idea that 'busy' equals 'productive' or 'successful'.
Drop a few things from your week and notice how productive and successful you really feel.
It allows you time to breathe and enjoy what you have going on!
It has spared us time to focus on our values and not get caught in a hurricane of things to 'do'.

So, I was happy to find this article in my inbox this week, reminding me that it's okay (even healthy!) to stop the glorification of busy.
