SH Propoganda Poster Art Museum
Poster Art
No matter how many years we live in Shanghai, we have resolved to never understand the complexities of the culture. On a daily basis, we are pushed and challenged to open our minds. On good days, we can try to see things from another perspective.
In hindsight, we should have gone to this museum much sooner than we did. We're about six years late! Though it is a tiny museum, a private collection by Yang Pei Ming, it boasts a power punch of culture on it's few walls. There are over 6,000 propaganda posters from 1940-1990, obtaining an official license from the government in 2012. Therefore, we could not have viewed this exhibit 6 years ago, legally!
For those interested in China's modern history, these posters were commissioned during the time of Mao Zedong and straight through the time of his death in 1976; prominent political times in China.
EXPAND ON MODERN HISTORY OF CHINA
Mao Zedong, known as 'Chairman Mao'. Beijing continues to herald his photo at each major tourist stop and everywhere in between. His corpse is on permanent display in Tienanmen Square. This is the only site in China, where there are hoards of people in absolute silence.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mausoleum_of_Mao_Zedong
No study of Chinese History would be complete without a good glimpse of this political figure.
