Behold the Blackboard

Our kitchen was a country-style eye sore, complete with farm animal borders.

We (meaning Daddy) removed the upper cupboards and we tackled the laborious job of peeling wallpaper boarders that have remained despite several paint jobs!

When working by hand was not happening, we rented a steamer from Home Depot!

We prepped the wall with plaster and sanding then taped off the area for Chalkboard Paint.

After a wee bit of research, I decided on Martha Stewart Chalkboard paint, which was well worth $9.99 for 6 ounce bottles. Three sufficed and we had some to spare for another project.

 First Coat

The tip given by staff at Michaels was to paint the second coat, the opposite direction of the first coat.

This has proven to be a worthwhile early project on the house, since it is keeping little hands and minds busy!

We picked up Fancy Nancy Poet Extraordinaire (O's choice!) at the library.

I had heard about Fancy Nancy series from big girls in Shanghai (those clever 5-year olds).

We learned a little about poetry and then created our own name poems on the new chalkboard wall.

O filled in the blanks for Baby C's poem!
