How does your garden grow?

Tee Pee (sans pea's)

Tee Pee (still sans pea's)

When we moved in the month of April and found a squatter in our backyard by the name of 'Chippy', it was a pleasant surprise. We had lived so many years void of wild animals, it was endearing to have one on the premise. He even invited a friend.
When I wrote friends in Shanghai to tell them about our backyard buddies, one told me, "I thought chipmunks and birdies only existed in Disney movies!"

Squash Flower

When the frost subsided, my husband was bound and determined to begin our garden.
A labour of love considering the man eats no greens or anything else with colour except candy!
After too many years of balcony boxes, he planned to plant a baker's dozen of seeds; pea's, carrots, corn (yes, giant stalks of corn!) peppers, tomatoes, kale, lettuce and a host of herbs.
Friends gifted us beautiful Heirloom brands we had never heard of.
We toiled at the weeds for weeks.
Then finally planted our gardens.

 Lovely kale remains

The chippy friends have only spared the kale and squash.

They have single-handedly torn out entire corn stalks and snapped up pea's before they could possibly shoot up. My husband awakens each day to assess the damage...and I'm meant to record the memoirs in this lovely Garden Journal.
I fear I'll be documenting recipes for Chipmunk Casserole.
