Teething Necklaces

Gina Martin Fabric

A fabric-freak, I was thrilled to happen upon Cambridge Lens Mills store weeks before Baby C's birthday.
Having returned fresh from Shanghai, Lens Mills was the perfect substitute for the Chinese Fabric Market.
I scoured the basement until finding these Gina Martin http://www.gina-martin.com/fabrics/ designs.

Necklace Sleeves

The idea came from a dear friend we met in Shanghai, who now resides in Korea.
She has a habit of sending us amazing 'Care Packages' filled with instruments, books and handmade treats.
She once sent these 'teething necklaces' in large and small, so O and I could wear matching 'jewellery'.
The concept is simple and the results are tops!

Inside Outing

1. Cut fabric strips much longer than the intended necklace (to account for knotting and beading)
2. Sew strips in sleeves.
3. Turn sleeves right-side out (as seen above). Daddy discovered a pencil helps the task.
4. Slide a bead (glass/plastic to allow for washing) into the center and knot on either side.
5. Continue adding beads and knotting them in.
6. Sew ribbon at each end for tying on the necklace.
*I opted for trying these snaps (below) which proved tedious and actually were not securely on!*

Pearl Snaps & Snap Tool

They turned out very pretty, but more of a 'choker' than a necklace!
