Long story short, we bought a load of pre-loved books that smelled so delicious, even Baby C had her nose stuck in them. We took one of the books to every Health Food Store in town, to see if we could make a match.
Cloves were apparent.
An incense stick was just not cutting it.
After a conversation with my Stateside friend, the lovely Miss A, she happened to mention Thieves Oil and the extensive benefits for family and home. The story behind this essential oil is just as spicy as it smells!
"A long time ago, people in France were dying of bubonic plague, otherwise known as black death because of the way a person's skin looked in the final stages of the disease.
The color black also referred to the mood, and the sense of dread, which had permeated European society.
Undertakers were afraid to touch the dead bodies, for fear of catching the usually fatal illness.
However, a small band of thieves had no such qualms. They passed from house to house, robbing the corpses. They seemed totally unconcerned about the possibility they were putting their lives at risk.
Finally they were caught. The authorities were very interested in how they were able to repeatedly expose themselves to a highly infectious disease, without getting sick.
So the thieves struck a deal. They would divulge their secret in exchange for clemency."

Definitely smells fantastic; even if it was a bit like we were performing some Egyptian enbalming ritual!!
Take my word of caution and be sure to mix it in a well ventilated area!
Though the smell is fabulous-the concentration during mixing can cause a massive headache!
Still not convinced it's the combination present in these books we have our noses stuck in!
EXPAND ON THIEVES OIL
Aromatherapy Lights. Add a few drops and some water into an aromatherapy lamp.
Stove Diffuser. Boil water and several drops on the stove, to purify air.
Flu Season Remedy. Use a few drops combined with a carrier oil (jojoba has a longer shelf life, but almond oil works too) and rub a dab on chest and throat. Add a drop to your humidifier.
Laundry Freshener. My father must think I'm a witch. Last time he came to our home for lunch, he found a pot on the stove he was about to serve onto his plate! We cook up soap buds for laundry soap and honestly, he didn't seem too surprised at the discovery! Soap buds are fantastic, but leave no scent on our clothes (which I miss after years of commercial fragrances!) Add a few drops of Thieves Oil to your laundry cycle.
Hand Sanitizer. The lovely Hannan at Eat Craft Parent, offers a 3-ingredient recipe for homemade hand sanitizer http://www.eatcraftparent.com/2014/06/non-toxic-hand-sanitizer-with-essential-oils/. If it worked for the Thieves, why not?
