Rain Gauge
Measuring
Nurture Store had a simple experiment, that is suitable for Spring weather! http://nurturestore.co.uk/how-to-make-a-rain-gauge-backyard-scienceAll you need is a clear, plastic bottle and stormy skies!
We've been getting some fresh rains in the nighttimes, which sounds lovely on the roof and through open windows!
Our metal ruler has both inches and centimeters, so we took a look at which offers smaller increments.
We cut off the top cone portion of the bottle and flipped it into a funnel.
Then we marked off lines in centimeters.
We talked about why people would be interested in learning about rainfall and who would be concerned if the rain was scarce.
Since rain can also bring wind, our empty plastic bottle would not stand a chance without something to hold it steady. We filled a little tin bucket with soil and made a hole to drop the bottle into.
It's been stormy skies all day, but not a drop of water!
We'll have to wait until the morning!
