The Nose-Blowing Blankie: A Gift from the Heart

With Baby C's birthday today, I asked O earlier in the week, if she would like to make her sister a sewing gift.
O: "YES! A blanket that she can blow her nose in."

We recently borrowed 'Cool Embroidery for Kids' http://www.amazon.com/Cool-Embroidery-Kids-Creative-Introduction/dp/1624033075, so I took a page from their book and cut out a simple shape for O to practice a 'satin stitch' around the edges of the heart.
I asked her if she wanted to include lavender we collected from our garden, so she left a little pocket opening and added it to her project.

Once she was finished, she was determined to wrap and ready her gift for her sister today.
Maybe we should patent the Nose-Blowing Blankie;)

EXPAND ON SIBLING BIRTHDAYS
A Birthday For Frances. Russell Hoban's Frances series are in my top ten!
Our first of the series, 'Bedtime for Frances' makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times I read it. I went on an immediate search for all things Frances.
Hoban is said to have based the character, Frances on a cheeky little neighbour of his, but he has done so brilliantly. Frances reminds me so much of O, with her made-up spelling and homemade songs and her ability to persuade her parents into most things!
When Hoban added her little sister Gloria, it was like reading about Baby C!
The series is a must read for sibling sisters.
Hoban has a true gift for seeing life through the eyes of a child.

'A Birthday For Frances'

Frances' baby sister Gloria is turning two.
Frances insists on buying Gloria a gift and convinces her parents to increase her allowance to do so.
She decides on a Chompo Bar and four balls of bubble gum, but has eaten half the gift before getting home. When guests arrive for Gloria's birthday, Frances refuses to sing 'Happy Birthday' and makes up her own words.
An amazing portrayal of being the sibling, whose birthday it is not!
