Watercolour Techniques: Spring Flowers


Watercolour is a weekly medium around our house for art hour.
There are so many techniques for improving the depth of watercolour work, so we tried one that involved removing (or watering down) with beautiful results!

Essentially, the inital shape is saturated with strong colour.
You can use water to pull away some of that strength, or dab with a paper towel.
Watercolour always has a degree of surprise with the patterns it creates while drying.



When the work was dry, we added detail with fine-tip markers.
We finished the lesson with a reading of The Old Lady and the Tulip, from Tell Me a Story.
