The Dead Bird (Wing)

Forever fascinated by feathers, we have them floating all over the place. Even the seagull variety. My kids love feathers and rejoice as if they have struck gold.
So for us to chance upon an entire, intact wing was too much to handle.
We had to elaborate with Wing Study time..and of course the amazing story by Margaret Wise Brown (Goodnight Moon author) The Dead Bird.

For anyone who has children who are completely intrigued by finding dead animals, The Dead Bird is a keeper.

 Nature's Anatomy Book

Julia Rothman is the author of Natures Anatomy which is basically an informative sketch book!
A great resource.
My farmer husband fully approves of her other book Farm Anatomy and fawns over the drawings!

After some rough labeling of wing parts, we brought out some sketch supplies.

We happen to be reading Trumpet of the Swan. Sadly it is one of the only books EB White has written for children, besides Charlotte's Web.
