Math Monday: Balance Challenge
"How can we find the center of this cube without a ruler?"
Miss O grabbed the little square of paper and started folding.
At one time, I cut a bunch of wooden cubes and drilled holes in the centers.
Somehow they went missing. So we took a minute to make some more.
"Yeah! What now!?"
{Mr. M inquiring about my drill and bits!}
Once the cubes were drilled, we stuck in some bamboo skewers and set up a few Balance Stations.
These maths involve weight and a little physics.
Balance Cubes
~wooden cube (2x2")
~bamboo skewers
~balance object (we used a Stacking Toy center)
~wooden beads
~playdough
Another version can be found at 'Babble Dabble Do.'
"Can we experiment with your money!?"
Any activity involving coins garners adequate amounts of attention!
This balance activity involves simply a lemon floating in water and a handful of coins.
The object is to see if you can balance a coin on the floating lemon.
We never did succeed!
And I'm fairly certain I'll never see my coins again.
