20 Days of Play: Loose Parts

Tinker on Tuesday.
Loose Parts Play is what you do when you go to a persons house with no "toys"; you get their kitchen tools and tinker away.
Tinkering and Loose Parts Play is a massive 'movement' recognizing that children will use everyday objects in unique and creative ways.
It also recognizes that most kids don't require toys, they just need interesting, often natural bits for play.

Over 20 Days of Play my personal 'challenge' is to stop and observe.
To take 10 minutes to just sit and watch what my kids choose to play with, how they create and interact with activities provided or veer off and create their own project.
Loose Parts Play offered different shapes, sounds (clinking glass beads), textures (shells), qualities (magnets). Objects carried varying energy; cold to touch (glass, metal) or neutral (wood, shoelace).
Each of the kids dove into the table as soon as items were laid out.
Not one of the kids used the objects in the same way.

You can heighten the experience with sand, salt, rice or playdough.
