Map Monday: Silk Road Cartography
By taking a look at a map of the Silk Road, we could easily see the route which Marco Polo took from Venice to China. I charted a mock-up from one the resources we collected in the library.
Once I had a land stencil, the kids blocked up their own water/land versions.
Mostly, they loved setting the edges of their maps on fire, to give them a vintage look!
My map contained more detail; main stops on the route, the land as well as water routes, The Silk Road but also the Grand Trunk Route and the Incense & Spice Roads. We're using this main map to play The Silk Road game, inspired by Line Upon Line Learning https://homeschool.rebeccareid.com/marco-polo-silk-road/
Our game has players choose their pack animal as playing piece.
Begin in Venice and roll dice to move piece.
Choose from headings; Trade, People, Land, Idea's & Inventions or Legends.
First pack animal to Xi'an China completes the game.
