Welcoming our rainy weather activities, we started the week with Fraction Umbrella's.

We even slipped in a little lesson in patterns.

All you need is 10 circles in the colours of your choice.
Fold in half, then in quarters before attaching them with glue in a hemisphere.

We own this little gem and it's well worn with love.
A little girl from Japan receives rain boots and an umbrella for her third birthday.
Then she must wait patiently for the rain.

After reading this, we did a mad search for other Beatrice Alemagna books.
The illustrations are whimsical and sweet and the storyline; a young girl is left in the cottage with her working mother on a rainy day. She is encouraged to put down her devises and explore outdoors.

'Puddle' is the story about a small child who is frustrated his favourite activities are spoiled due to rotton weather. When his mother suggests he draws and he refuses, she begins her own picture starting with his blue umbrella 'drawing' in his interest. He gives her suggestions about what to add to her rainy day work and finally decides that  they should be outside enjoying the real thing.

There has been several points in motherhood, in which turning into Mary Poppins has saved the day.
Miss O was madly obsessed with her and now it's Miss C's turn.
Although we've seen the original movie countless times, PL Travers was the first to introduce this strict and magical nanny to the world.
Great read.
