Poetry Week: Poet Tree

With inspiration from Shel Silversteins 'Poet Tree' poem and Georgia Heards 'Poetry in Motion' project, we created a Poem Scavenger Hunt and Poet Tree.

Underneath the poet tree

Come and rest awhile with me

And watch the way the word web weaves

Between the shady story leaves

The branches of the Poet Tree

reach from the mountains to the sea

So come and dream, or come and climb

Just don't get hit by a falling rhymes.

Poems were scattered outdoors, hanging with clothes pegs.

The object was to collect the poems and return them to the Poet Tree for time and Shel Silverstein!

Miss C has been reciting homemade poems on a whim, so I try to write them down so she can copy out her work. I made sure to include her Inchworm Poem on the scavenger hunt.

Poetry Week has been largely inspired by Georgia Heards Awakening the Heart.
Tons of beautiful ways to introduce poetry with little projects. Great read for families looking to add poetry to their literature lessons.
