Map Monday: Map Dot-to-Dot

Cuba Dot-to-Dot
We finished reading 'My Brigadista Year' by Katherine Paterson (Bridge to Terabithia) about a girl named Lora from Havana who joins the 'Army of Literacy' under the command of Fidel Castro.

In an effort to bring education to farmers in the countryside, literate students from the cities are trained and sent to live with farm families, sharing in their chores by day, teaching them to read and write by night.
Though it is classed as Historical Fiction, 'The Army of Literacy' campaign and many other mentions in the novel, are based on fact.

We offered two levels of dot-to-dot; 1-63 and 1-145.
Once the outline was drawn, we identified the three locations mentioned in the book: Havana (Lora's family home), Veradero (training camp) and The Escambray Mountains (farm families).

EXPAND ON KATHERINE PATERSON WORK
The Flint Heart. Based on the original by Eden Philpott.
We attempted The Bridge to Terabithia, but found content to be a bit frightening. So we picked up The Flint Heart on CD. Apparently, just as scary!
The premise drawing close comparisons to the kids favourite, Willa of the Wood.
