Massive Mural

 Collaboration

Rotating our seasonal mural for a late summers theme of flowers.
We've taken an old, gigantic canvas, painted it over and re-use it throughout the year for massive artwork.
Working on a scale like this offers new perspective and challenges.
Generally when we are making art, we're creating on paper 9x11 inches or smaller.

Go big.
I suggested that this time they create extra large, so we feel like insects in the painting.
Through trial and error, we've learned that sketching first in chalk, prevents major mistakes (read: meltdowns) and gives us a good outline of where objects will be situated.
For a combined artist mural, it also sections out whose work will go where, so there is no confusion mid-process.
We aim to balance the piece, so each artists work is dotted over the entire canvas.

The end result were large, colourful blooms in the living room!

We followed up with a story about a grandfather who moves to an apartment where he can no longer make a giant garden. He and his granddaughter decide to paint a mural on his balcony and have it grow with time.
