Math Monday: Waldorf Geometry Drawings

 Geometry Drawing #2

Waldorf education has a lovely (and more complex than meets the eye) geometry unit, where students create patterns with shapes.
We started with five simple circles overlapping.
Between each, a leaf shaped pattern appeared.
Then I asked that they colour in the circles with their choice of chalk, but blend the center leaf to be a mix of the neighbouring circles.
In hindsight, it was a decent warm-up activity for the more complex patterns.
Geometry Drawing #1

You can create your own patterns using a variety of shapes.
Allowing the artist to create by sight, they can self-correct if the patterns are not symmetrical.
Often times the first attempt requires adjustments.
