Word Wednesday: The Colour Poem
Writing can be a bit daunting, but a start with simple poetry, kids (and adults) can gain some serious literary confidence.
The Colour Poem is a perfect example.
I took the idea from "The Measured Mom" but instead of brainstorming for a Purple Poem, I wrote a poem about things that are purple and had the kids discipher which colour I was referring to. I felt this gave them a deeper understanding of the task to come.
Miss C was assigned the work of creating a Red Poem.
1. List things that are red.
Strawberries
Poppies
Leaves
Rubies
Raspberries
2. Add description words (adjectives) to each line.
Seedy Strawberries
Tall Poppies
Crunchy Leaves
Shiny Rubies
Tasty Raspberries
3. Find descriptive words that are alliterations (each line of words start with same letter)
Seedy Strawberries
Petaly Poppies
Lovely Leaves
Rough Rubies
Ripe Raspberries
4. Write out your poem on the typewriter!
