20 Days of Play: Shape (Cardboard Relief Landscape)

Expanding our Harrison-inspired art, we collected cardboard for a Relief piece.
Cardboard Relief is also a great way to do a 3D map, if you have a geography project with mountains and valleys (note to self for future...)

We had to first take a look at foreground, background and in-between ground to decide which pieces would be layered in which order.

Then we got down to work painting with acrylics, to ensure the colour was bold and no cardboard brown could seep through.

Everybody in our house loves using acrylics!
First we have to set up like a real studio with newspapers, aprons and all the supplies ready at hand.
Mr. M wanted a canvas of his own and loved experimenting with colour on top of colour.
He used to simply combine everything and end up with brown paintings, but he was aware this time of how to move colour to keep it from going muddy.

Once they had finished their relief pieces and left them to dry, they scrambled for more canvas to use up the remaining paint on the plate.
