Sci Fri: History Unearthed Ice Core

Fantastic project to complete our Ice Age theme; Ice Core Study.
The science project began for me early in the week, as I had to take several days to prepare the sample.
I used red cabbage juice to tint 1c of 'winter ice' and clear water to layer 1/4c 'summer ice'.
Halfway through, I added some ash as 'volcanic ash'.

Then I had to find soem leftover snow to hide the ice core!
The kid scientists were given a map for their Arctic expedition.

When they returned with the speciman, they then had to evaluate how many years the core represented by number of layers. One winter and summer layer equaled one year in the Arctic.
They also had to determine which year and season there was a volcanic eruption.

Then we witnessed the real deal from Greenland...
