Brain Games
Taking a look at the wonderful brain, we prepared a few experiments that the kids LOVED!
Bouba or Kiki (Association)
First I had the kids annunciate the words Bouba and Kiki then asked what they meant
(they don't mean anything, in English.)
Then I asked them to name shapes either Bouba or Kiki, with no right or wrong answers.
I placed the cards into 'Expected' and 'Not Expected' piles.
The majoity of sharp shapes were named 'Kiki' (hard sound) and the bubble shapes were named 'Bouba' (rounded sound).
Red, Green, Blue (Association)
This game involved two sets of cards.
In one set, the colour and the word matched (red was coloured red...)
The second set, the colour and the word did not match (green was coloured red...)
We timed them to see how long it took them to complete each set, assuming the set that matched colour and word, would be completed quickly.
They giggled as they stumbled over the second set of cards, not knowing whether they should read the colour or the word!
