Salt Water Science

With our extra eggs from Easter, we decided to attempt a Salt Water Science experiment.
It allowed us to connect science with our map of the Dead Sea.
We set up with 4 jars of water; one with baking soda, one with salt, one with sugar and the last one, plain water as our "controlled variable".

Before we placed the eggs in the water, everyone took turns hypothesizing the results.
The baking soda (sodium bicarbonate), much like the pure salt, allowed the eggs to float.

"Adding salt increases the density of water.
As the salt dissolves in the water, the ions fit into the spaces between the water molecules,
similar to marbles filling the spaces if you poured them into a bucket full of tennis balls."
