Emily Dickinson: Simple Simile Poetry

Emily Dickinson 1830, by Miss C

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain.
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again
I shall not live in vain.
~Emily Dickinson

Emily Dickinson is one of America's classical poets (and Plant Lady, as we will soon discover.)

Although Emily had only 15 poems published in her lifetime, after her death, all 1500 plus pieces were considered classical literature. She was known for her lyrics and use of simile; comparison using 'like' or 'as'.

We attempted a simple simile in pattern form; choosing a subject and writing four lines to describe.

Robins breasts are like roses
Robins feather are like silk
Robins claws are like needles
Robins beaks are like tweezers.
