Word Wednesday: Snail Trail

After loads of hands-on with snails, we switched to super science; big terms and their meanings.
We set up a Photo Scavenger Hunt; several photos of (generic) objects around the property, things such as a rock pile, wood pile, bike tire etc. At each of those locations, the kids were to find either a scientific term or explanation for the term.
Once they collected all of the terms and explanations, they returned to figure out the matches.
This was also a great lesson in word origin, suffixes and prefixes, not to mention reading and spelling.
It elicited loads of mispronunciation and some Harry Potter jokes.

Gastropod-"Stomach Foot"
Protoconch-"First Shell" (the soft shell a snail is born with)
