Math Monday: Curve Stitch Sums

Kicking off the week with a repeat of our favourite Math Art of the year: Curve Stitch Sums.

The process offers a visual of how many ways you can add to make one number.

Simply draw a cross in the center of your cardstock (or fabric, *NB if you are using fabric, make sure to stretch taut on an embroidery hoop).

Mark numbers 0-(insert number) in equal increments in each quarter (0 starting in first point from center). Add thumbtack holes if using cardstock.

Choose your thread colour and stitch addends (summands).

0, 7

1,6

2,5 etc.

This is an amazing way to show math patterns and to keep an open mind about how many ways numbers can come to the same sum. In addition to being great for hand-eye and small motor coordination.
