Sci Fri: Scutes & Shells Scavenger Hunt

Our Painted Painted Turtles from earlier in the week, served in our scavenger hunt for parts of a turtle.

When the kids returned with fistfuls of words, we looked at where they should be placed on a Turtle Diagram.

Last year, we found a deceased Painted Turtle and put it aside to see if we could save it's shell (to which there is a process of cleaning in order to keep and preserve.)
However, days after setting it aside, some wildlife managed to smash it's shell to smithereens and ate the contents. We did save the scutes and shell bits that look like parts of a puzzle!
