Clay Class with Miss O

Miss O was keen to invite us to clay class, so we joined her for tutorials at their Mud Kitchen.

Our first task was to collect clay from mud puddles. She has a technique she terms Cow Plops, which means grabbing a handful of clay and slapping it onto your wood slab until it splatters, effectively removing excess water!

Once back at the kitchen, she has multiple slabs that the kids squirrel away from the wood shed. After forming your clay into a large ball, she uses two wood slabs to press the clay flat.

Then comes the process of searching for strongly veined foliage. She stated the stronger the vein pattern, the better the imprint. Then she proceeded to introduce us to the best plants.

Although we see clay as somewhat of a nuisance in terms of gardening and growing, our kids have found the benefits and never shy away from a fun mess!
