Word Wednesday: Silk Scavenger Hunt & Web Weave

Before sending the kids out for a Photo Scavenger Hunt, we took a look at how spiders create their webs.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WBln5lD42Y&list=PLDO7YrQpg54TQ8qN8ec6GhQnMiEWX8Ya6&index=4

Then we talked about the different reasons spiders spin their silk; to collect prey, ballooning to new homes and spinning their cocoon for their eggs. We challenged them to photograph a variety of webs (orb/spiral, funnel, sheet, cobwebs) and eggs sacs-all of which are abundant at the farm!

Once they returned, a jar of elastics, mason jar lid and a chickpea were awaiting their spinning skills. The challenge was to create an elastic web that could hold the chickpea ('insect').
