Conifer Collections

Before sending the kids out for their conifer collecting-we watched SciShow Kids for information about evergreens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwfQEK29Wrg

 

The challenge was to collect as many varieties of evergreens as can be found on the property. Once they returned, they propped their samples in wood cookies and searched the books for identification; fir, spruce or pine.

We learned that holly is considered an evergreen, but not a conifer, as it bears no cones. We used our favourite Cecily Mary Barker for poetry and copywork.
