Math Monday: Magic Squares
"Watch me turn two circles into a square!"
'What We Do All Day' is a great resource for math-e-magic, brain teasers and book lists. They listed this activity (which we had done years ago-but the kids forgot!) to start off our 'Women in Science' week.

Take two paper strips. Tape one into a circle. Loop the second through (a la paper chain) and tape as well.
Then tape one to the other, both sides, so the chain is linked in place.
Cut one circle down the center, all the way around (as shown above.)
You will then have two circles on the end of a strip of paper.
Cut this strip up the centerline.
TA DA!
First I performed the magic show, but I had supplies out for each child to give it a go on their own.
