Earth Week: Air Spinners

 k

For our Air element of Earth Sciences this week, we attempted making spinners. Basically another version of a pinwheel; take a circle and cut slices into the center. Bend into corners on angles. Pin to a cork board and use on a windy day (or substitute with a hair dryer!)

EXPAND ON WIND SCIENCE

Flying Balloons. Blow up a balloon, without tying, attached a 2" length of straw with tape. Thread a long piece of string through the straw. Tape the string to two opposite walls. Blow up the balloon and release!

Paper Roll Cars. Use a long paper roll as the body of the car. Push through a skewer at each end as the axles. Attach cardboard wheels. Have children construct some sort of wind break on top which will propel the car.
