Earth Week: Waldorf Water Cycle & Scavenger Hunt
As we complete our Water Studies and segue into Earth Week, we introduced a Water Cycle Scavenger Hunt. Each child was given a 4x4 grid with symbols; various forms that water can take to be classed into solids, liquids or gases. On trees, I pinned the corresponding symbols with the word. Once they located the placard, they had to write the word on their grid to match each symbol.
However, if you were tagged by 'Air Pollution' or 'Oil Spill', you could lose one point on your grid card. The 'Conservation Officer' could ask you questions about water for you to gain an extra point as well.
Once their grids were complete (all placards located) they returned to classify water forms into Solid, Liquid or Gas categories.
The big kids then completed a Waldorf-style Water Cycle diagram for their Nature Journals.
We managed to borrow this book from our local library as an e-book. I had heard many raving reviews. It follows a boy escaping from the Sudan war in the 80's and the parallel story refers to a young girl in Sudan whose community is about to be changed by the introduction of a water well in 2008. Based on a true story. Mature content. Very highly recommended.
