Word Wednesday: Water Cycle Science
Water hard as iron,
Water flowing free,
Water floating light as air,
Water one in three.
Vapour rising skyward,
Falls to earth as rain,
Flows in river, stream and sea
To rise as cloud again.
Lifting skyward, falling earthward,
Ever on the move,
Thus the cycle of all life
Comes and goes on earth.
~Water Cycle, by Paul King
Two simple science experiments gave us a better look at the Water Cycle; precipitation, evaporation and condensation. Both include mixing warm and cool air in an enclosed space.
The plastic ziploc bag version requires only water, bag and a sunny window. Once the sun hits, the process begins and repeats all day long.
The mason jar version requires warm water in a jar and ice cubes on a plate above. This experiment demonstrates how clouds are formed, but the precipitation and condensation are still evident on a tabletop.
