Sci Fri: Rock Cycle & MOHS Scratch Test
kWe included all three types of rocks: sedimentary, metamorphic and igneous in our final work for Rock Studies, using chalk pastel on black. The cycle includes erosion, heat and compression, compacting and cementing as a variety of ways rocks are formed over thousands of years.
jWe also conducted an experiment to examine the hardness scale of rocks. Using copper pennies, a screw and fingernails, the kids lined up rocks from softest to hardest. Then we took a look at MOHS hardness scale for reference.
