When introducing poetry writing, we've attempted to avoid rhyming, as this can be very intimating. Poetry involves all sorts of patterns and templates: haiku, colour poems, alliteration, five senses, shape poetry. We introduced Cinquin poetry, 'cinq' meaning five lines. Each line then follows a template: Line One: 1 topic (noun), Line Two: 2 descriptive words (adjectives) Line Three: 3 action words (verbs) ending in -ing, Line Four: 4 word phrase, Line Five: 1 (new) noun. When complete, it should be shaped like a diamond.
