Word Wednesday: To Be A Butterfly
We printed off a French vintage butterfly poster and combined it with our Mini Nature Museum for some visual references. When we find objects outdoors (bones, beaks, chrysalis', eggs...) we add them to our wooden tray. This has an acrylic sliding top so is never fully sealed and allows the objects to air dry. If you use a jewelers loupe, you can see the butterfly scales up close.
The big kids love origami, so when we can, we incorporate it into lessons. There are a million great tutorials of about every insect and animal online.
We examined the differences between moths and butterflies, before asking the kids to draw a version of each. They copied the work of Williams Wordsworth, To Be A Butterfly. DK Eyewitness Books are our favourite for fast facts and tons of pictures and history.
