Literature Study: Walkabout

Our second summer book, 'Walkabout' takes a look at aboriginal Australian rite of passage. Two British children stranded in the desert from a plane crash come across a boy on a walkabout. They learn about survival and civilization.

Aboriginal Art Study

We took a look at aboriginal artwork, which uses plant-based paints (clay, rock etc.) We also studied some symbols to see if we could translate meaning.

Designing Meaningful Symbols

'In our art studies, we learned that symbols are used to represent objects or ideas. Create ten symbols of objects or places on our land. Swap your symbols to have another person interpret. Symbols are simple drawings, no detail necessary.'
