M is for Moon: Monthly Phases (Lunar New Year Theme)

 

Keep your white crayons handy!

 We keep a collection of white crayons as they are very useful for 'ghost' writing. I gave the kids a challenge to create a calendar for February with a few hints; it starts on a Tuesday and has 28 days in 2022. Then we learned that the Lunar New Year starts on the New Moon and followed throughout the month with our white crayon. The trick is to make it nice and thick, so when painted, the water cannot seep through the wax.

Once the phases were ready in white, we took a black wash and revealed a month of moons.
