T is for Tree: Estimating Measurement

For Math Monday assignment, I scattered my kids all over the front lawn, with their heads between their legs. We wanted to learn the height of our massive maples and I read that when you can see the tip of the tree from between your legs, you are approximately as far away as the tree is tall.
However, depending on how flexi each kid was, the same tree seemed to differ by about 10 feet! Although amusing, we agreed this was a rough estimate based on your flexibility!

We also attempted learning the age of a tree without seeing the tree rings by measuring the circumference, multiplying  it by Pi (3.14) and then by the species rate of growth.
