Math Monday: Place Value Rods

For someone who is learning to add sums under ten, place value rods is a starting point to learning how the numbers work beyond.

To start, I just name a number between 10-99 and we count tens rods and ones cubes. Afterwards we include felt numbers, so he can get a feel for what they look like in numerals.

 After a few rounds he toddles off and uses them as logging sticks for his tractors;)
