Soil Comparison & Drainage

We are learning that soil quality is just as crucial to planting as sun and water. We tested our soil (manure) vs our clay, which requires us to make amendments every growing season. When both were placed in a jar with a bit of water, shaken and settled you can really note the difference in how much sand, silt and soil is present.

The holes dug for our soil samples, were the perfect place to continue testing. This time we tested drainage, by making the holes the same depth, filling them with water and counting how many minutes it took to drain each individually.
