Clouds: Chalk & Wet Felting Landscape

 k

The kids are always shocked that clouds are only made up of water droplets-and rather disappointed that they wouldn't taste like marshmallows or be a reasonable spot to stand if humans could fly!

There are three basic types of clouds based on their structure: cirrus, stratus and cumulus. Within those three umbrella categories, the types are much more numerous than I previously imagined and classed by their shape and height within the atmosphere. We watched a short video and read Tomie DePaola's picture book about cloud types and history.

Then we dove into two days of cloud art.

Day one, we took several shades of blue pastel, framed a watercolour paper with tape and shaded our pages from dark to light blue. They added two tones of green and some trees along the horizon line (for some pretty sweet landscapes!)

Day two we brought out a selection of roving wool to match up our colour palette. The kids love wet felting-even in the hot weather!
