Sci Fri: Pencil in a Bag Science

 k

Pencil-in-a-bag is a little bit of physics for the final stretch of our water theme. The big kids have completed this science project in the past, but revisiting projects is one of the perks of multi-age home school.

The topic is polymers of the plastic bag (by the way, using a small sandwich baggie is the best option, as the larger bags have more water to make it through). Since polymers are flexible, they form a  temporary seal around the pencil to prevent leakage.

It's a simple science set-up with items from around the house-so gets top ratings from parents and kids alike.
