Vegan Bites: Ombre Smoothie & Mango Art

 j

Since the story The Island at the End of Everything is historical fiction, we had the chance to visit the Philippines vicariously, especially the more remote rural areas and learn about the flora and fauna (mango, pitaya/dragonfruit, orange groves, acacia flowers). e used the mango grove from the story to inspire our art and snack!

Mango-Orange, Strawberry-Lime Ombre Smoothie

Scoop 3/4 of the strawberry blend into a jar. Use the remaining 1/4 and 1/4 of the mango blend, to create the middle smoothie. Scoop the strawberry into jars, top with strawberry-mango blend, then finish with the mango-lime. Serve with slice of dragonfruit, orange and lime.

Now that the big kids have several years of experience with art under their belts, we're moving into more still life work. They have learned and processed the fact that all art is broken down into shape. I set out mangoes and oil pastels for them to choose their colour palette and they set to work.
