Pulse & Pumping Heart Model (Circulatory System)

 

Valentines Day and completing the muscular system was a great way to dive into the bodys strongest muscle: the heart! We created this model of the heart, courtesy of Mombrite using two balloons, two straws and a glass of beet water.

Then we took a look at our own hearts by taking our heart rates. Using a marshmallow and a matchstick resting on the part of our body where we felt our heart rate was strongest or most easily detected. We measured our resting heart rate twice, for accuracy, followed by our active heart rates by running around outdoors before writing results.
