Rainbow Week Activities

Every year come traditional Spring break, we power through with some Rainbow Science activities. This year we introduced Rainbow Punch, courtesy of a dear friend who uses this game for her kids birthdays.

Punch holes in a sheet of cardboard to snugly fit rows of paper cups. Hot glue in place before filling cups with prizes or activity cards (the kids later used the punch board for trivia games and Friday presentations). Seal with tissue paper and elastic bands. When it is time to select a cup, 'punch' through for prize/activity. Each cup contained an activity for every day of Rainbow Week.

Scavenger Hunt. The big kids took a Hide & Seek book to collect clues for around the farm. For example, the book contained a shovel, watering can, bubble wand, bucket....so their brother could use the book as a guide to find letters hidden outdoors.

Once he collected all the letters, he had to complete the letter scramble: RAINBOW in seven colours.

Rainbow Bubble Snakes
This was the favourite game of the week. Cut the top off of a plastic bottle to serve as a bubble blower. Seal the cut end with a paper towel. Decorate the towel with drops of food colouring. Dip in a plate of soapy water. When you blow into the mouth of the bottle, a super long rainbow snake appears!

Magical Transfer
Fold a paper towel in half. Draw the same image (a rainbow in this case) on both pieces of towel, but colour in the bottom image with markers. Gently lay the layered pieces in a tray of water. The colour will appear from the bottom piece.

Walking Rainbow

Cut a piece of paper towel into a rainbow shape (keep it small to maintain sturdiness). Colour each end of the rainbow with washable marker. Dip the ends in a plate of water and watch the rainbow 'walk'.
