Earth Day Studies: Weather Vane

 

Taking a look at wind power, we had the wee ones create a weather vane. Super simple and successful, all you need is a paper cup, pencil (with eraser end), pin, straw and paper. Turn the cup upside down. Mark N, S, E, W. Punch the pencil down the center. Pin the straw to the eraser. Add arrows to the straw ends.

Like a pinwheel, you can really get this moving at the proper angle. Take your weather vane outdoors to lean which direction the wind is blowing.
