Print-Making: Lino Prints

Aside from plasticine, our print-making days turn out to be top notch in the art department. There are so many types of print-making, from easy monoprints and styrofoam prints for the really wee to these lino prints for the advanced artist.

Super, simple safety boards are made by taking a bit of plywood and some 2x2 lengths. Cut the plywood into a suitable size square or rectangle for your carving space. Add a length of 2x2 to the top top and bottom bottom, so it can be banked against a table. Easy peasy.

Purchasing carving tools is fairly straightforward. The Steadtler brand we use has a screw base on the handle, to hold the blades when they are not in use. The last supply needed is a brayer, which is similar to a paint roller, except it's made of rubber, instead of foam, so the extra paint does not drip into your carved valleys.
